X International Human Rights Colloquium

es fr pt

 le 18 June 2010

The X International Colloquium seeks to bring together a diverse group of young activists and scholars from the Global South to collectively discuss the possibilities of mutual influence and exchange between the regional systems and the international system of human rights protection.

The X Colloquium will approach, from a Global South perspective, three functions of the human rights regional systems: protection in individual cases, monitoring general situations, and standard-setting.

The International Human Rights Colloquium is an annual forum, organized since 2001, that brings together human rights activists and scholars from Latin America, Africa, and Asia for one week. The objective of the Colloquium is to create a space for participants to exchange experiences and knowledge, access innovative perspectives regarding different human rights issues and create new partnerships.

The Colloquium aims to create a multiplier effect that benefits both the participants and their organizations.

As in previous years, the program of activities will include lectures, workshops and seminar. In the morning sessions, general conferences will be held and in the afternoon sessions, participants will take part in workshops and seminars, discuss case studies and make visits to organizations.

Given the central theme of the X Colloquium, we encourage activists who have had experience in engaging with regional systems or who wish to broaden their expertise with these mechanisms to apply.

After selection and until the Colloquium begins in São Paulo, participants will be responsible for some readings and other preparatory tasks.

The X Colloquium is sponsored by the Open Society Institute, the Ford Foundation, the John D. & Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the Sigrid Rausing Trust, among others.
